Are you looking for a new way to celebrate your anniversary? Instead of having dinner and drinks in the city, why not try something new? Celebrate your years together with a relaxing weekend (or week) in the country. Explore picturesque surroundings with a romantic hike in the hills in or near Salem, South Carolina.
Start your day with a romantic breakfast of fresh fruit pancakes and oven-baked bacon in the main dining room at Sunrise Farm. Then set out for hiking in the Upcountry.
Hitting the Trails
Celebrate your love in the fresh air with a day hike in Salem’s Devil’s Fork State Park. Enjoy the Oconee Bells Nature Trail, with its rare flowers and hardwood forest. Relax on one of the benches along the way and eat lunch. Peaceful and perfect for couples, this trail has several ponds where you can view aquatic life. For more adventurous couples, the Bear Cove Trail leads hikers along the shore of the pristine Lake Jocassee, then into a mixed forest and glimpses of birds, bears, snakes, and deer.
Devil’s Fork has picnic areas, a beach, free Wi-Fi, and rental opportunities for kayaks, canoes, and SUPs if your Significant Other lacks your enthusiasm for hiking. The area boasts beautiful waterfalls, boating, and trout fishing. You’ll need a boat to get to most of the waterfalls that flow into Lake Jocassee, but you can hike a section of the Foothill trail to get to Laurel Fork Falls.
To make the most of your romantic day outdoors, stash some special treats in your backpack. Include chocolates, gourmet cheese, and crackers or one of your partner’s favorite foods.
A Few Romantic Tips
You can bring mementos of your time together, like old photos or letters. Stop to read them or reminisce at certain points on your trek. Take a hike in the late afternoon and watch the sunset together from the trail.
After a day on the trails exploring nature together in the South Carolina Upcountry, kick back at Sunrise Farm. You can choose from a cozy cottage with private patio or a spacious farmhouse bedroom with pastoral views. Surprising your partner with a romantic hike in the Mountain Lakes Region could make for one of the most memorable trips you’ll ever take.
